My go-to recipe for quick, fuss-free, easy oven baked chicken wings.
I’m almost embarrassed to post this recipe because it’s so incredibly easy. This is my go-to recipe for chicken wings, and it requires just three ingredients. Four, if you are feeling extra.
The three ingredients are light soya sauce, honey and tomato ketchup. These three combined gives it that magical trinity flavour profile of salty, sweet and tangy. The optional ingredient is the dark sweet soya sauce, or kicap manis. It helps to get the dark caramelisation going a lot quicker to give it that gorgeous roasty brown, but if you leave it out, you won’t miss anything tastewise.
If there is a catch, it’s that I would recommend that these be marinated overnight. It will really help the flavours absorb into the chicken. The minimum amount would be two hours, but if you can, I would really recommend you leave it in overnight.
I cut up my chicken wings, but you can leave them whole and intact if you’re able to easily marinate it whole and easily.
I used the broil or grill mode on my oven at the last 7 minutes and crank up the temperature to give this a really good colour, but you can most certainly use the regular oven bake mode if you don’t have it. If you have an actual grill, you can throw these on too. You can easily make these in an air fryer too. Easy crowdpleaser, promise!
You can eat this by itself, of course, but I like dipping it in my spicy, tangy, chilli sauce.
Ingredients:
- 500g or about 4 pieces of Chicken Wings
- 1/4 cup or 2 tbsps Light Soya Sauce
- 1/4 cup Honey
- 1/4 cup Tomato Ketchup
- 1 tbsp of Dark Sweet Soya Sauce or Kecap Manis (optional, but this is going to give a little extra colour caramelisation colour for this)
Directions:
- Combine the light soya sauce, honey, tomato ketchup and Dark Sweet Soya Sauce to make the marinade.
- Add the chicken pieces and evenly coat with the marinade. Let marinade overnight.
- When ready to bake, set oven to preheat at 175 degrees Celcius or 345 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Lay chicken pieces on an oven rack or oven tray, skin side up.
- Put in the oven for 15 minutes.
- At the 15 minute-mark, increase temperature to 220 degrees Celcius or 425 degrees Fahrenheit and set oven to broil or grill mode. Let chicken wings roast for another 7-10 minutes, or until it achieved desired golden-brownness.
