Travel Beauty Kit: The Five Item Makeup Bag

I travelled with this kit for one of my recent work trips. I was able to get ready in less than 10 minutes, while still looking effortlessly polished and professionally.

  1. A Red Lipstick

The star product for this look is a bold red lipstick, which can double up as a cheek colour. This means to go for the traditional creamy bullet lipsticks, as opposed to liquid lipsticks. A lipstick will diffuse out easily too for a stained look, which would work beautifully for a day look. To be honest, this is how I use any bold lip colour – apply it on the centre of the lips, blend it out with the fingers, tap the excess on the cheeks for a tint of colour, and blot the lips with a tissue.

My go-to is MAC’s lipstick in Diva, a sexy, burgundy red lip colour. There’s just something about a red lip that makes me look and feel “done” without doing much, but of course, if pinks or corals are more your thing, feel free to swap.

  1. Charlotte Tilbury Bronze and Glow Palette

The Charlotte Tilbury Bronze and Glow palette gives a subtle sculpt and highlight on my skin. When I first purchased this item I didn’t like it because I thought it was too subtle on my skintone. I’ve grown to love this – because I can’t go wrong with it. It blends out easily, and it gives such a natural, yet sophisticated sculpt to the skin.

Since I have lash extensions on, I don’t need to do much on the eyes but I could run the Sculpt shade of the palette for a subtle eye contour and the highlight on the inner corners.

This product is expensive though, and not easily purchased in Asia – I purchased mine in Harrod’s London for $$$$$.

  1. Brow Pencil

Having a defined brow frames the face immediately, for a polished, neat look. I prefer using a skinny brow pencil for this which is “harder” and can give a more precise definition to the brows. I like using the Peripera Skinny Brow Pencil. NYX also makes a good skinny brow pencil.

  1. Face Base

I’ve been loving this Innisfree BB Cushion in the shade W33. This is the ONLY BB cushion out there that actually matches my skintone. The coverage is light to medium, and I could quickly pat and blend it into the skin with the spongepad. It leaves a satin finish on the skin and personally I don’t find that I have to powder. Oil will break through after a few hours around my nose and smiles lines, but that’s normal for me. I usually just run my fingers on those areas and it smooths out fine. This also has an SPF of 34++, which is a nice touch.

  1. Concealer

I have dark undereye circles, and I like – nay, need – to pop a bit of concealer under the eyes. The Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Concealer in Shade Y33 is a couple shades lighter than my skin for that extra brightness. I apply a light hand with this concealer because it does have the tendency to crease. No powders in this kit!

And that’s my entire kit – a minimalist makeup kit for a maximized look.
